St. Leonard, MD โ Hundreds of local children got an opportunity Sunday, June 5 to explore the wonders of agriculture and life on the farm. Calvert Countyโs 31st annual Childrenโs Day on the Farm was hosted by Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM) in St. Leonard. The six-hour event provided entertainment plus some safe, hands-on experiences for even the smallest of children.
In addition to the traditional activitiesโpetting zoos, pony rides, wagon rides and milking demonstrationsโthe first-ever Childrenโs Day on the Farm artwork contest was held prior to the event. The winning artwork was on display. The artwork contest winner was identified by event organizers as Ashley Bassett, age 8.
Entertainment included the Blue Sky Puppet Theater, Hornโs Punch and Judy Show, singer-songwriter-storyteller David Norris, Ken the Magician, and Jay Armsworthy and Eastern Tradition Band.
Antique tractors, cars and trucks were on display and attendees old and young had opportunities to check out the vehicles. Midway through the event an antique tractor and car parade was held.
Childrenโs Day on the Farm is one of several family friendly events planned in the coming months at JPPM. For more information on upcoming events visit www.jefpat.org.
