Charlotte Hall, MD – Charlotte Hall Veterans Home was filled with humility, love and thankfulness Friday, Nov. 11 during a ceremony to celebrate the residents and their service to foster liberty in America. Each year a special Veteran Dayโs ceremony is held in Charlotte Hall, which is followed by a wonderfully prepared luncheon.
The patriotic crowd stood, pledged allegiance to the flag and sang the National Anthem led by Frank Curreri. Administrator Greg Osborne graciously acknowledged guests that were in attendance before announcing the special keynote speaker of the day.
Guest keynote speaker Delegate Deborah C. Rey [R- District 29B] gave a humble and encouraging speech. That was also filled with gratitude on such an appropriate day. Retired United States Air Force Veteran Rey, shared bits of her 20 years of military experience, even though she had to admit that nothing significant happened during her time in the military.
โThank you for having the courage to put country before self, saying, ‘I will defend you’โ Rey stated. โHowever, who do we thank today? Our families and our caregivers–they are our heroes,โ Rey reminded the audience as she gave a heartwarming speech that was short but sweet.
After the keynote speech, a proclamation by Gov. Larry Hogan was read by Rey which declared Thursday, Nov. 11 to by Veterans Day for those who are currently serving and those who have served in our armed forces.
Many guests were in attendance to celebrate the men and woman who fought for the future of our country. The audience included Delegate Sheila Hixson, Former Delegate Johnny Wood, Maryland Senate President Mike Miller, MD Veterans Home Commissioner Gloria Larman, RN/CRNA; Captain Young, commanding Officer at the Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River; Captain Warner, executive officer at Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River; and MCPO Coleman, command master chief, Patuxent River.
Additionally, Field Representative Rachel Jones from senators Ben Cardin and Barbara Milkulski offices was present and read letters on their behalf. Examples of outstanding Maryland veterans were given in the letters and the famous quote by Winston Churchill was mentioned–“Never was so much owed by so many to so few”
Administrator Greg Osborne gave the most honoring closing to the ceremony by stating โIt is like family taking care of family at the Charlotte Hall Veteranโs Home!โย Osborne gave closing remarks before lunch and reminded guests, in his southern accent, to โGive us a hug–veterans like hugs.โ
