St. Inigoes, MD— On June 19, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Reppel responded to Jutland Drive in St. Inigoes for the report of a domestic assault in progress.
When Reppel arrived on the scene, contact was made with the defendant who was identified as Shannon J. Dement, 35 of St. Inigoes, who was extremely intoxicated.
Dement advised she had been involved in a verbal argument with her live-in boyfriend who was the victim. She stated the victim took her keys, wallet and money and refused to return them to her.
Dement advised they were only arguing and that there was no physical altercation. She had no visible signs of injury. Contact was then made with the victim who advised, “he took Dement’s keys to keep her from driving her car while she was intoxicated,” according to charging documents.
The victim stated that Dement bit him on the left ear, and hit him in the head with the keys to the car. The victim was bleeding from his left ear and had several scratches on his head that were bleeding.
Dement was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where she was charged with second-degree assault.
Dement has a hearing scheduled for July 28 in District Court. Dement faces a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and or a maximum fine of $2,500.
