Onย May 18 around 8:35 p.m.,ย the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squadย had a report of a chimney fire at 3125 Karen Drive in Chesapeake Beach.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a working house fire which was caused by fire in the chimney area.
A second alarm was requested at once.ย The house was located on Karen Drive with a driveway that was about 1,000 feet off the main road.ย This made operation and equipment available to get to house location limited. Over 50 Firefighters from North Beach, Dunkirk, Prince Frederick, Huntingtown and St. Leonard responded to the call.
Investigation revealed the fire was accidental from a fire spreading from the wood stove. No injuries were reported.
The fire equipment kept many area residents from reaching their homes until the fire was under control. Residents did not complain and were supportive of the effort. The firefighting effort snarled traffic in the area for about an hour.
