CHARLES COUNTY, Md. – Throughout Black History Month, we are sharing some of our employees who are contributing to the safety of our county. Meet Detective Gideon Nyameyke, an 11-year veteran of law enforcement and a four-year member of the CCSO. Detective Nyameyke joined the CCSO in 2020 after serving seven years with the MPD. He chose to work at the Charles County Sheriffโs Office because he heard a lot of good things about the Agency and decided it was where he wanted to make an impact.
Interestingly enough, his desire to make a difference is not only applicable to Charles County but to our country as well. That desire started in high school and into college when Detective Nyameyke decided to study aerospace and aeronautics. But life had another plan for Detective Nyameyke and set him on a different path โ that of serving in law enforcement. Upon obtaining an Associateโs Degree, he set his police career in motion. He also enlisted in the Maryland Air National Guard, USAF. In his heart, Detective Nyameyke knew he wanted to serve in a way that gave him purpose and the opportunity to help others.
When asked what historical African Americans he admired, he immediately said the Tuskegee Airmen. He learned about them as a child and admired their story of perseverance. His love of planes and anything aeronautical spoke to him so he read their stories and felt they were true American heroes. It was because of what he learned about the Airmen that compelled him to join the Maryland Air National Guard, USAF.
Detective Nyameyke says his favorite part about being a police officer is the smiles and appreciation heโs received over the years, just for making himself available to assist when people need help. He says the smiles may be simple enough; however, the reward is much bigger inside his heart. His joy of making a positive difference shows in his smile, his demeanor, and his willingness to help out whenever and wherever he is needed. He hopes his career as a police officer will inspire younger generations to join the greatest career ever so that they too can help make a positive difference in other peopleโs lives.
Detective Nyameyke, we thank you for your service to Charles County and to our country.
