Argument Over Cat Preceded Alleged Theft Of Father’s SUV, Chesapeake Beach Woman Charged

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A Chesapeake Beach woman is facing multiple felony charges after Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies alleged she took her father’s SUV without permission and drove it to Virginia after her driving privileges had reportedly been revoked following what the vehicle owner told deputies was a DUI arrest, according to court documents.

Kaytlin Elizabeth Castle, 19, of Chesapeake Beach, has been charged in the District Court for Calvert County with theft of property valued between $1,500 and $25,000, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, and unauthorized removal of a motor vehicle.

According to the application for statement of charges filed by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 10:23 p.m. June 28, 2026, to a residence in the 3700 block of East Chesapeake Beach Road for a report of the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Charging documents state the vehicle’s owner reported that Castle had taken his white 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe at approximately 10:30 a.m. June 27 without his knowledge or permission. Investigators allege Castle used the vehicle’s physical key while leaving behind the key fob.

According to court documents, the vehicle’s owner and his wife attempted to contact Castle after discovering the SUV was missing. Investigators said Castle allegedly sent a text message stating she was out of state for a job interview.

The charging documents further state the vehicle’s owner told deputies Castle had been arrested earlier in June for driving under the influence, resulting in the loss of her driving privileges. He also told investigators he believed Castle had traveled to Virginia with the SUV after she stopped answering her phone.

Deputies also documented that the vehicle owner said an argument the previous day over a cat in the home may have contributed to the incident. The report states Castle was attempting to hide the cat.

According to investigators, the vehicle owner requested criminal charges and asked that the SUV be entered into law enforcement databases as stolen. Court documents identify the vehicle as a white 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe bearing Virginia registration. The owner estimated the SUV’s value at approximately $7,000.

District Court records show a statement of charges was filed June 29, 2026. An arrest warrant was issued the same day by Judge Alexander Robinson. The warrant was served June 30, 2026, and Castle was released after posting a $2,500 unsecured personal bond.

Castle is scheduled to appear for a trial-officer scheduling hearing on Aug. 7, 2026, at Calvert District Court before Judge Karen A. V. Smith.
