A man from the Seventh District in St. Maryโ€™s County has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for drunk driving. ย St. Maryโ€™s County Circuit Court Judge David Densford sentenced Jason Winnegar, 39, of Avenue as a repeat offender. Sentencing was on May 3rd.ย 

Winnegar was arrested on May 29 of last year on Route 5 in Mechanicsville by Trooper Mersman of the Maryland State Police after he was observed driving in an erratic manner. Winnegar allegedly failed a field sobriety test. No accident was involved in the incident.

Winnegar was found guilty of the charge of Driving While under the Influence of Alcohol by a circuit court jury during a trial on February 29 of this year. ย He was also acquitted of charges of Negligent Driving and Reckless Driving, but was found guilty of several other charges which were either suspended or merged with the charge for which he was sentenced.

Winnegar also was given a suspended six-month jail term in addition to the unsuspended 18 months. He will serve three years of supervised probation after released from jail. Work release was authorized when he becomes employed.
