Lexington Park, MD—On Saturday Sept. 16, Brian M. Crosby, a former United States Army Ranger, announced his candidacy for Maryland House of Delegates District 29B against incumbent Deb Rey. District 29B covers the southern portion of St. Mary’s County, a population of over 41,000 people.
Crosby’s campaign slogan is “Back to Basics”—stating that his focus revolves around issues that ensure a better quality of life, including improved infrastructure, a better education system, and economic diversity. At his announcement of candidacy, Crosby made it clear that he believes the key to success lies within our own community, “I’m willing to work with all elected officials, regardless of political party. It does not matter if you are a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or unaffiliated, if you have a good idea, I will work with you to get it implemented.”
Having been the son of two teenaged parents, one working in food service and the other going on to become a registered nurse, Crosby states that he understands the struggles that working-class families face to make ends meet. Despite his adolescent disadvantages, Crosby overcame. Through the efforts made by his family for him and his four siblings, Crosby was able to attend college on an athletic scholarship, and graduate with both a business and a law degree. After college, Crosby enlisted in the military and served as an Army Ranger for five years, including three deployments to Afghanistan.
Crosby emphasizes his belief in putting our community and its people first, “I believe as your representative, I will embody your values, toughness, and grit.” Maryland state delegates serve four-year terms, with the next election taking place on Nov. 6, 2018.
