The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs continued their series against cross division rivals, the Somerset Patriots. After falling in the first two games of the series on Friday and Saturday night, the Blue Crabs looked to turn around their fortune as they turned the page to September. Getting the call for the Blue Crabs was left-handed pitcher Logan Williamson. The Patriots countered with righty, Josh Lowey, who was aiming for his 13th win of this season. Runs were few and far betweenย early as each team struggled to put together any sort of offensive momentum but the Patriots would scratch out the 4-1 victory.
After receiving just three hits the night before, the Blue Crabs offense aimed to get off to a strong start. They did just that as they manufactured a run in the bottom of the first thanks in large part to the legs of Sean Smith. After singling to start the Blue Crabs day, Smith was advanced to second on Renny Osunaโs sacrifice bunt. Smith then swiped third stealing the base cleanly and scampered home following an errant Patriots throw.
The Patriots offense didnโt wait around long to retaliate as they struck for three in the away-half of the third on three hits and one Blue Crabs error. The inning was highlighted by a two-run Yunesky Sanchez double, giving the Patriots the lead for good.
