The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs took on the Liberty Division leading Long Island Ducks in the third game of a four-game series Wednesday at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY. Coming off a tough loss on Tuesday night, the Blue Crabs sent left-handed pitcher, Wade Korpi, to the mound looking to take back the advantage in the series.ย The Ducks countered with southpaw, Matt Way, who was looking to improve on his 3-4 record.ย The two were locked in a pitchers-duel throughout but thanks to a run in the fourth, the Blue Crabs were able outpitch their way to a 1-0 victory.
Wade Korpi was brought in by the Blue Crabs in late May to stabilize their starting rotation. In his 10 games started he has been able to go at least five innings in every start. And while he has provided some consistency for the Blue Crabs rotation, his start Wednesday was without a doubt his best of the season. The Lake Worth, FL native pitched 5 2/3 innings while only allowing one hit and walking two in picking up his third win on the season.
The Blue Crabs bullpen was equally impressive after Korpi finished. In first from the bullpen was the Crabs most recent addition Jordan Conley. Conley threw an inning and a third of shutout ball. In the eighth, RHP Eddie Morlan retired the first two Ducks batters and lefty Charlie Manning would finish the inning by recording a big strikeout of Ducks leadoff man, Joash Brodin. Jim Ed Warden would do as he has all year and shutdown the ninth inning to earn his league leading 25th save on the season.ย
The lone run the Blue Crabs scored would come in the fourth inning off of Way. After 3B Renny Osuna leadoff the inning with a double to leftfield, 1B Jose Salas would deliver a two-out RBI with a single to left.
UP NEXT โ The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will finish up their series with the Long Island Ducks Thursday at 7:05pm before heading to Somerset to take on the Patriots for a weekend set.ย The Blue Crabs will return home from their season long road-trip on Tuesday, August 6th to take on the York Revolution.
