A popular national promotion is again being employed by Calvert County Government as a way to pump up the all-important restaurant trade. During their Tuesday, Feb. 25 meeting the Calvert County Commissioners proclaimed “Restaurant Week” in the county.

Commissioner Gerald W. “Jerry” Clark [R] presented the proclamation to Rhonda Tracy of Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina, a Prince Frederick eatery specializing in Mexican food and one of the event’s participants.

Department of Economic Development tourism specialist Joyce Stinnett Baki said the special week, which continues through Sunday, March 2, is a time for residents and visitors to “enjoy really great menus at a special price.”

Clark noted that the Second annual Restaurant Week in Calvert was coinciding with the opening of the newly rebuilt Lighthouse Inn. He predicted the reopening is “starting a new era in Solomons in the dining industry.”

The previous Lighthouse Inn, which was owned by the late Richard Fischer, burned down on the Ides of March 2006. The rebuild project was recently completed after an arduous process started by Fischer and completed by the new owners.
