LUSBY, Md. – Vera’s Beach Club in Lusby, Maryland sponsored a boat docking competition this past Sunday run by Chesapeake Cowboys.  Thousands of spectators came by both land and by boat and hundreds of boats lined up to watch the event. The event began in silence with the crowd standing for The National Anthem, and it quickly turned into a party-like atmosphere. The  emcee got the crowd excited about the contest and some of the spectators transitioned to rafts to beat the 90-degree heat. Participants came from Salisbury, Crisfield, Tilghman Island, Cape Charles, St. Michaels, Smith Island, Madison and Solomons, Maryland and attempted to dock their boats in the fastest time in one of three categories: small, medium, and large boats. The best docking time of the day was 18.9 seconds. Congratulations to all the winners!

The first place winners were as follows: small boats-Jaime Marshall, medium boats-Jeff Brown, and large boats-John Ashton.  Jeff Brown won the Shootout in 31 seconds on the “38 Special”.  Our very own Solomons participant, 11-year-old Junior Abell, docked his boat, “Miss Julie”, in 38 seconds.  The spectators truly enjoyed watching this local favorite in action!  A great shoutout to local friends Chelsea Haizlip and Cindy Nelson for participating in the contest on the “No Smoke” boat. They handled the pressure well! Check out their video below and watch them in action. For more information on boat docking events, visit the Facebook page for the Chesapeake Cowboys.
