POMFRET, Md. — On Friday, March 28, 2025, there was a loss of water pressure at the Oakwood Subdivision located at 5540 Rafael Drive in Pomfret. Following immediate repairs and precautionary testing by the Charles County Department of Public Works, Utilities Division, the boil water advisory has now been officially lifted.
Initial guidance advised residents to boil water for cooking, drinking, and hygiene due to the potential for contamination caused by low pressure in the system. However, after water quality testing confirmed safety levels, residents may now resume normal water use without boiling.
Water is safe for all uses, including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation. No further action is required at this time.
Residents who experience any discoloration in their water should continue to:
• Run water from the lowest faucet in the home until it clears
• Run an empty cycle in the washing machine
• Discard the first batch of ice from automatic ice makers

The following guidance is flawed…
҉ۢ Run water from the lowest faucet in the home until it clears:
There will still be contaminated water in the plumbing system on upper levels.
running water at the lowest point does no clear upper levels.
To properly clear the system you must turn all faucets on . fact
