NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md. – One hundred volunteers showed up for this year’s Clean the Bay Day (CTBD) onboard NAS Patuxent River June 1-3 and removed more than 500 pounds of trash and debris from 3.5 miles of shoreline.
“The most collected item was plastic waste and the most unique items removed were a lawn lounge chair and a large marine bouy,” said Capt. Molly Boron, Aerial Targets (PMA-208) program manager, and coordinator for the Pax River event.
Participants came from NAS and tenant commands like Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers; Naval Test Wing Atlantic; Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River; some program offices; and Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division.
“We also had three volunteers from Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock [in West Bethesda] who drove down for the event on Wednesday,” Boron noted. “Several active-duty volunteers were unaware of the beaches at Pax River and expressed an appreciation for the beauty of the installation’s shoreline.”
BZ to the site leaders, military and civilian volunteers, and Chief Yeoman Priscilla Nelson for making the 2021 CTBD event a huge success.
