Prince Frederick, MD — If you’re like most of us you probably have a lot of old documents that you could stand to dispose of. But you have to be careful and make sure they’re destroyed properly or identity thieves could get their hands on them and cause you a world of hurt.

The Calvert County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division, is offering a free way to securely dispose of documents. They’re hosting a free paper shredding event for county residents Saturday, Sept. 21.

The shred event will be held rain or shine at the Appeal Landfill at 401 Sweetwater Road in Lusby.

There are a few rules you’ll need to follow.  You must be a resident of Calvert County and be able to prove that with some form of identification.

This event is for individuals and not for businesses.

All paper must be removed from plastic bags and cardboard boxes. Paper clips and staples are acceptable. Binders and binder clips are not acceptable.

There’s no limit to the amount of documents you can have shredded and certificates of destruction will be provided if requested.
