PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) schools will welcome approximately 15,000 students back into our buildings amidst many challenges that linger while the pandemic continues. One challenge is a significant shortage of bus drivers.ย  School districts in many of our neighboring counties and across the United States are experiencing a similar driver shortage.ย  Despite the efforts of our local bus contractors to attract more employees, they currently have only 91% of the drivers necessary to drive all routes.

CCPS is implementing an array of actions to address the bus routes without drivers.ย  In fact, many bus assignments will change significantly in the next few days, which could result in increased ride times and increased occupancy.ย  Therefore parents are advised to check the Transportation information under the Registration tab of Home Access Center (HAC) on August 29, 2021 by using this link Login (calvertnet.k12.md.us).ย ย

When school opens CCPS staff will monitor actual bus ridership and driver vacancies, then adjust the bus routes and times, as we areย  able.ย  Parents will be notified four (4) business days in advance of any bus route changes.ย  Also remember to sign up to use the Here Comes the Bus – Calvert County Public School District (calvertnet.k12.md.us) (HCTB) app to reduce the amount of time spent waiting at bus stops with our unique code of 87557.ย

CCPS appreciates your patience and understanding as we work through challenges and alternate solutions.ย

CCPS encourages anyone interested in becoming a full time or substitute bus driver to call the CCPS Transportation Office at 443-550-8786 as soon as possible.ย  Training is free of charge, the typical workday is approximately 5.75 hours long, and drivers can bring their school-aged child on board when their route goes to the school their child attends, which saves on childcare costs.
