SOLOMONS, Md. – Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans is mourning the loss of his 86-year-old father. Edward Martin “Ted” Evans passed away on December 12.

On his election website, Sheriff Evans cited being raised in a law enforcement environment as the inspiration for his career.  Ted Evans was a retired Maryland State  Police Lt. Colonel and his mother, Audrey B. Evans, a former Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Ted Evans was a Marine Corps veteran who joined the Maryland State Police in 1956 eventually rising to the position of Deputy Superintendent before retiring in 1986.

The Calvert County Commissioners offered their condolences. “he Board of County Commissioners and Calvert County Government staff send heartfelt condolences to Sheriff Mike Evans and family for the passing of his father, Ted Evans. Ted retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Maryland State Police and served as the State Police Deputy Superintendent. Before moving up the ranks, he served eight years with the Prince Frederick detachment. We are grateful for Ted’s service to our community and wish the Evans family comfort during their time of loss.”

The family said it would plan a memorial service at a later date when COVID restrictions permit.
