Calvert County SRO and Students Join Forces to Build 250 lb Oyster Reef Ball for Chesapeake Bay Restoration

PORT REPUBLIC, Md. – Calvert County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO), Sgt. Woodford, recently teamed up with students at Mutual Elementary School for a unique and impactful project: building a massive 250 lb oyster reef ball!

This structure will soon be deployed to a local oyster restoration site in the Chesapeake Bay as part of an ongoing effort to improve water quality and provide a healthy habitat for marine life.

The students worked alongside Sgt. Woodford to learn about the importance of oysters in our ecosystem, as these amazing little creatures naturally filter the water, helping to keep the Bay clean for all who depend on it.

Just one more reasonโ€”Reason #6,493,241,569โ€”why our SROs are simply the BEST! Theyโ€™re more than just mentors; theyโ€™re leaders, educators, and advocates for our environment and community.

Letโ€™s give a round of applause for Sgt. Woodford and the young environmental champions at Mutual Elementary!
