SOLOMONS, Md. — The Calvert Marine Museum has earned reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), reaffirming its commitment to professional excellence and public service.
AAM accreditation is the highest national recognition for museums and signifies that an institution meets rigorous standards for governance, collections stewardship, education, financial responsibility and operations. The reaccreditation process includes an extensive self-study and review by museum professionals.
“We are honored to receive reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums,” said Jeff Murray, director of the Calvert Marine Museum. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and Board of Governors, who work every day to preserve our collections, serve our community and create meaningful experiences for our visitors.”
Reaccreditation also demonstrates the museum’s continued commitment to preserving Southern Maryland’s maritime history, paleontology and estuarine life for future generations.
“The accreditation process encourages museums to evaluate and strengthen every aspect of their operations,” Murray said. “We are proud of what our team has accomplished and remain committed to serving our community with excellence.”
Only a small fraction of the estimated 33,000 museums in the United States hold AAM accreditation. Maintaining this distinction places the Calvert Marine Museum among a select group of institutions that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to professional excellence.
