WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man was ordered held without bond after Charles County deputies said they found a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number during a vehicle lookout tied to a Calvert County shooting investigation, according to charging documents.

Takwon Demarion Mason, 21, of Waldorf, was charged with knowingly possessing a firearm with an altered identification number, having a loaded handgun on his person, firearm possession after a felony conviction, and having a handgun on his person.

On May 4, 2026, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office received a lookout from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for a vehicle involved in a shooting in Calvert County, according to charging documents.

The lookout was for a silver Ford Focus with Maryland registration plates. About 1:01 a.m., deputies located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Wingate hotel on Business Park Court in Waldorf.

Several people were standing in the parking lot when deputies arrived, according to the report. Charging documents state the group began walking back toward the Ford Focus as deputies told everyone to stop and get on the ground.

One person, later identified as Mason, allegedly did not immediately get on the ground but eventually complied. Mason was placed in handcuffs, and when asked whether he had any weapons, he told deputies he had a handgun on him, according to charging documents.

A deputy recovered a 9mm Taurus G3C from Mason’s waistband. The report states the handgun’s serial number had been obliterated and could not be obtained from the gun.

Deputies also found 69 hollow-point rounds in the magazine, according to charging documents.

Police later contacted the Maryland State Police Gun Center to determine whether Mason was legally allowed to possess firearms. The report states Mason had a prior criminal conviction in Charles County Circuit Court that prohibited him from possessing a regulated firearm.

The charging documents also state the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office was working on a warrant for Mason for three counts of attempted homicide in connection with a shooting that occurred in Calvert County before his apprehension in Charles County.

Mason was transported to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office District III station to be interviewed and later taken to the Charles County Detention Center.

Court records show Mason was ordered held without bond on May 4, 2026, and remained held without bond after a bail review hearing before Judge Robert B. Riddle on May 5.

A preliminary hearing is set for May 27, 2026, at Charles District Court.

Under Maryland law, the listed charges carry up to 30 years of incarceration and up to $15,000 in fines if Mason is convicted and sentenced to the maximum consecutive terms.
