PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The team in charge of meeting requirements for the statewide program, Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, presented their updates at the April 28 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting — and the results are mostly positive.
The presentation was just for informational purposes and did not require a BOCC vote on any elements of the Blueprint implementation. However, continued work on meeting the requirements may have ongoing operating and capital budget implications. These possibilities will be addressed through the annual budget process as necessary.
During their presentation, the committee reviewed the five pillars of Blueprint and how Calvert County is progressing based on the five pillars. The pillars are:
- Pillar 1: Improving early childhood education
- Pillar 2: Cultivating high-quality and diverse teachers and leaders
- Pillar 3: Ensuring that all students are college and career ready
- Pillar 4: More resources for students to be successful
- Pillar 5: Governance and accountability
Calvert County met all implementation requirements for 2025 and is continuing to work on meeting all requirements according to timelines set by the state.
Highlights include student progress and expanded opportunities for students and staff. Challenges cited are achievement gaps, changing state policies, and staff turnover that challenges consistency and training.
