PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County’s Commission for Veterans and Military Families is promoting two unique scholarship opportunities for military families and caregivers.

The Pillars of Strength Scholarship is offered by the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). This annual program provides full scholarships for caregivers of service members and veterans who are wounded, injured, or ill. The program honors the exceptional dedication of caregivers and supports them in pursuing career-focused undergraduate or graduate degrees. The program is administered by UMGC and the Blewitt Foundation, in partnership with the National Military Family Association.

This scholarship covers the full cost of tuition, fees, and course-related resources. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2026. All interested applicants can apply online or reach out to www.umgc.edu/pillarsapp.

Another opportunity is the Dole Caregiver Fellowship, which offers an opportunity for military and veteran caregivers. This leadership program supports and uplifts military and veteran caregivers while helping them grow their voice, skill, and connections. This multiyear fellowship is focused on building community among caregivers in all 50 states.

Calvert’s Commission for Veterans and Military Families serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to help shape the community and the policies that affect veterans.
