
LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Hollywood man was charged after a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputy reported seeing him across from a patrol vehicle, chasing him on foot and finding an improvised glass smoking device with suspected cocaine residue.
James Robert Anderson Jr., 44, of Hollywood, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges stem from a June 25, 2026, incident near Great Mills Road in Lexington Park.
Charging documents state a deputy was stationary at the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office District 4 station on Great Mills Road when he saw Anderson standing in the parking lot across the street. The deputy reported knowing Anderson had an active warrant through the sheriff’s office for failure to appear.
A short time later, Anderson looked across the street and saw the marked patrol vehicle, charging documents state. The deputy reported Anderson adjusted his waistband and immediately began running behind 21632 Great Mills Road.
The deputy chased Anderson on foot while wearing an identifiable law enforcement uniform. Anderson was eventually stopped in the woods behind the address and placed under arrest, according to charging documents.
A search of Anderson’s person revealed an improvised glass smoking device containing cocaine residue, court documents state. The substance was described in charging documents as a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance.
No other substances were located on Anderson, according to the report.
Anderson’s identity was verified through a recent booking photograph from the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Court records show Anderson posted a $2,000 unsecured personal bond June 25.
A trial is set for Aug. 17, 2026, in St. Mary’s County District Court.
