PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools are once again warning of the possibility of a bus driver shortage on October 27.
The following message was sent out to CCPS families regarding concerns for morning transportation disruptions:
“We have been advised that, once again, there may be a number of bus drivers who will call in sick tomorrow.ย
We have not been told of this possibility directly from our contractors and drivers and we certainly hope that it is a rumor. However, we feel a responsibility to let you know so you can be prepared with alternate plans to get your children to school should their bus not run.ย We do know that, once again, our transportation department will do its best to have other buses pick up the slack.
Please check the Bus Status page on our website frequently for updates.
We apologize for this inconvenience, as well as the other challenges weโre all facing due to the bus driver shortage.”

This news comes on the heels of multiple “sick-outs” that bus drivers orchestratedย on October 11 and 12 which caused major disruptions county-wide. Those previous protests cited the necessity of drawing attention to challenges bus drivers faced regarding pay and benefits.
We will continue to provide additional updates as they come available.
