
LA PLATA, Md. – At the meeting on Tuesday, May 15, the County Commissioners adopted the fiscal 2019 General Fund budget of $404,659,200 for fiscal 2019, an increase of 3.4 percent from the previous year. More information is available in the full news release here.

Work Session
A work session was held to review and discuss public comments on the Bryans Village Zoning Map Amendment. This map amendment would permit a mix of both single-family detached units and town-homes. The staff report and a record of public comments are available on BoardDocs. The Commissioners are scheduled to vote on this amendment on Tuesday, June 5.
Approval Items
Commissioners approved the following budget transfer requests from the Sheriffโs Office:
- $252,800 transferred from vehicle fuel savings to procure equipment not approved in the fiscal 2019 budget.
- $67,000 transferred from meal service savings at the Detention Center to procure equipment.
- $87,200 transferred from vehicle fuel savings to procure four civilian unmarked vehicles.
- Commissioners approved a budget transfer request from full-time salary savings to overtime costs in Public Works Utilities, to pay for staff who made repairs for a higher than usual number of water main breaks.
- Commissioners approved an inter-category budget transfer request of $5.2 million from the Board of Education to pay for instructional materials and supplies, student transportation, technology replacement, and security enhancements.

Bonnie Williams was appointed to the Agricultural Land Preservation Advisory Board.

Commissioners presented a proclamation recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week from May 20-26, 2018. National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine’s “front line.” View photo in Flickr.
