LA PLATA, Md. — The Charles County Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee (SECAC), in partnership with the F.B. Gwynn Center, will host a Back-to-School Fathers Pep Rally on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, from 7:45 to 9:15 a.m. at the Gwynn Center, located at 5998 Radio Station Road in La Plata.
The event is a call to action for fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, mentors and male caregivers across Charles County to help encourage students with special needs as they begin the new school year. Organizers say the presence of positive male role models can play an important part in students’ confidence and academic success.
Participants will gather to cheer on students during the first week of school, sending a strong message of support and community spirit. Light refreshments will be available, and registration is required in advance.

SECAC: Advocacy and Parent Voice
The Charles County SECAC provides parents, caregivers, educators and community partners with a forum to advise the school system on issues affecting students with disabilities. The committee enables the director of special education to gather meaningful input on policies, programs and services to ensure students with disabilities receive the supports they need to succeed.
SECAC also works to connect families with resources, increase awareness of services offered by CCPS and strengthen collaboration between schools and the community. More information on CCPS special education services is available at ccboe.com.
