LA PLATA, Md. — Charles County Commissioner President Reuben B. Collins II has introduced two proposals for discussion at future county meetings: exploring term limit legislation and establishing a Fire and EMS Task Force.

During the February 25 County Commissioners meeting, Collins announced plans to initiate discussions on term limits for elected officials in Charles County. He also proposed forming a Fire and EMS Task Force to examine the potential creation of a county fire chief position.

“These will be upcoming items for agendas, and I just wanted to put everyone in the loop,” Collins said.

This announcement builds on Collins’ previous proposal regarding government transparency and oversight. On March 4, during the new business portion of the Board of County Commissioners meeting, he introduced a plan to request a briefing on the establishment of an independent County Inspector General’s Office at the upcoming March 25 meeting.

The proposed office would serve as an independent body tasked with auditing county government, improving program effectiveness, and investigating fraud, abuse, and complaints against elected officials.

“This initiative will save and protect our residents’ tax money,” Collins said. “It is the result of conversations we’ve all heard throughout the community, and I believe this is a project the entire board is interested in pursuing.”

The Charles County Board of County Commissioners has a joint town hall meeting scheduled for March 25 at 6 p.m. at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata, MD 20646. For more details, visit charlescountymd.gov.
