La Plata, Md. – March 14, 2020 – Charles County Government is announcing several closures and cancellations in order to protect the public health and safety of its residents as new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases are confirmed in Maryland, including at least one case in Charles County.

Major changes to Charles County Government and affiliated agenciesโ€™ operating schedules include:

โ€ข All school-based community centers, Charles County Schoolsโ€™ indoor pools, Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center, and Port Tobacco Recreation Center are closed through March 30.

โ€ข Waldorf Senior and Recreational Center will be closed through March 23. County staff will reassess its status for reopening after that date.

โ€ข All Senior Centers and Nanjemoy Community Center are closed until further notice, and all scheduled programs, activities, and classes are cancelled.

โ€ข Meals on Wheels will be cancelled beginning Monday, Mar. 16 until further notice.

โ€ข Commissioners Quarterly Town Hall Meeting, District 4 Town Hall Meeting, and District 1 Town Hall Meeting are cancelled.

โ€ข Charles County Public Schools are closed from March 16 โ€“ 27. For full details, visit www.ccboe.com.

โ€ข Charles County Public Library branches are closed March 13 โ€“ 28, and all events and programs are cancelled through April 30. For full details, visit www.ccplonline.org.

County services that remain on a normal operating schedule include the Charles County Treasury Office, Tri-County Animal Shelter, VanGO, AlphaBEST child care at Port Tobacco, curbside recycling, and landfill and recycling centers. Charles County Government plans to evaluate its operational capacity and telework options for non-essential employees and plans to announce any further operational changes as needed. Contact the Charles County Department of Health with questions about COVID-19 at 301-609-6717.ย  The hours of operation will be Friday, March 13, 2020 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday, March 14th and 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.ย  The call center will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
