Charles County School Bus Crash: Four Injured, MEDEVAC Deployed In Hughesville

HUGHESVILLE, Md. – Emergency crews responded to a serious motor vehicle crash involving a Charles County Public Schools bus #117 Tuesday morning near the intersection of Gallant Green Road and Leonardtown Road.

The crash, which occurred on November 19, 2024 around 9:00 a.m., involved four injured occupants, including one trapped in a Dodge passenger vehicle. Fortunately, no students were on board the bus at the time of the incident.

Firefighters quickly began extrication efforts, freeing the trapped occupant within 15 minutes. Due to the severity of the injuries, Maryland State Police Trooper 2 helicopter was pre-launched to transport one injured patient to a trauma center.

The bus driver, who suffered a leg injury, and two additional occupants were treated on the scene. EMS transported a 5-year-old female, 23-year-old female and 48-year-old female by ambulance to UM Capital Region Medical Center for care. MSP Trooper 2 airlifted the 38-year-old male patient to UM Capital Region Medical Center for treatment.

Motorists in the area were advised to exercise caution as first responders worked the scene, causing delays along the busy roadway.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

  1. So, they put a light in at Gallant Green and there are still accidents there. Maybe they should have shifted Gallant Green down to the traffic circle.
