WALDORF, Md. – The Charles County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has suspended a correctional officer – a four-year veteran of the Charles County Detention Center – and relieved him of his duties after being made aware that the officer is alleged to have violated the privacy of an arrestee’s cell phone during the booking process.
In accordance with Agency policy, the CCSO Office of Professional Responsibility will conduct an administrative investigation. In addition, the CCSO Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident and is working in collaboration with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office to address potential violations of Maryland Law.
Sheriff Troy D. Berry said, “I want to inform our community of this investigation and reassure them that we are investigating this to the fullest extent. This correctional officer’s actions are contrary to the values and the professionalism of the Agency.”

From time to time there arrests for illegal internet content, both on their phone & a laptop/ desktop. The story may/ ,may not say what websites they went to, what websites they visited & if their websites were listed, we could try to stay off of them. The other unknown is: whos hosting these websites. Are they done in this country or where? It could be that where they’re done, they’re legal, but whos doing them? I get concerned that those that are hosting these sites, putting- up the illegal content go unaddressed. that nothing happens to them. If they’re not local, then I understand, but if they are local, then why isn’t the website host, the website owner, part of the picture? Aren’t they the purveyor of illegal content?
