WALDORF, Md. — Charles County’s 2025 Truck Rodeo and Trade Skills Career Fair are joining forces this year for one big community event, set for Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf. Admission is free and open to all ages.
Visitors can cheer on county public works crews as they compete in timed obstacle courses with dump trucks, backhoes and other heavy machinery — including a popular women’s division contest that highlights the skills of female operators. Between competitions, attendees can grab lunch from local food trucks and stop by the county’s HR tent to meet recruiters about open positions in public works and related fields.
The Trade Skills Career Fair, hosted by Charles County Recreation, Parks & Tourism and geared toward students ages 13–18, will run 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. alongside the rodeo.

The fair will feature hands-on demonstrations, tool safety lessons and opportunities for students to meet staff from several county government departments who will share what it’s like to work in their fields. The College of Southern Maryland will host interactive demos and provide guidance on technical education pathways, helping teens see how training can lead to local careers. SMECO will roll in with its utility truck to give an up-close look at the energy industry and the skills needed to power the region.
“This program started two years ago as part of our youth development efforts to introduce students to local industries and the skills,” said a spokesperson for Charles County Recreation, Parks & Tourism, which is hosting the Trade Skills Career Fair. “By combining the fair with the Truck Rodeo this year, we’re giving teens a chance to see these careers in action and talk with professionals.”
Event organizers invited Charles County Public Schools’ Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs to participate, and several middle and high schools have already signed up to bring students to the stadium for the day. Organizers said they’re eager to welcome students ready to cheer on the competitions, explore the hands-on stations and meet the professionals who keep Charles County running.
