The Charles County Commission for Women held a reception to honor immediate Past-Chair Debbie Bennett, Jennifer Abell, Denise Barnes, and Pauleen Brewer on Sunday, Jan. 6, at the home of Ron and Christine Parker in La Plata.
The honorees were recognized for the fulfillment of their appointment and years of dedicated service to the commission. Each honoree was presented a service award plaque and certificate of recognition issued by the Charles County Commissioners. Debbie Bennett served 2000-2007, Jennifer Abell served 2004-2007, Denise Barnes served 2005-2007 and Pauleen Brewer served 2005-2007. The reception was attended by Delegate Peter F Murphy, Commissioner Reuben B. Collins, II, and Commissioner Samuel N. Graves, Jr., as well as, thirty guests of the commission.

The 2008-2009 officers are: Chair Christine Parker, Vice-Chair Jessie Morris, Treasurer Vivian Warren, and Secretary Robin Walthour; and new confirmed appointed members are: Roberta Berry, Claudia Hansley, Melanie Boston-Holland, Trena Jones, Rona Kelley, Carole King, and Diane Warren.
The mission of the commission is to advocate for women and families in Charles County by acting as a referral agency, encouraging volunteer programs, publicizing activities and services, encouraging education and job training, promoting public forums including the Charles County Women’s Fair on March 1, 2008 at CSM, La Plata and Charles County Commission for Women Annual Awards Banquet on April 11, 2008 at Calvary Gospel Church, Waldorf, publicizing newly passed legislation, promoting continuing equal opportunity and focusing on current family issues.
The commission is a non-partisan citizen member commission re-established in 1996 by Charles County Commissioners. The commission is comprised of members representing all regions and diversity of the county appointed to a four year term with the option of serving up to two terms.
