Leonardtown, MD – “Changing our Future Together” is the theme of this year’s National Public Health Week observance, The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County have proclaimed the week of April 2 – 8 in recognition of the event and in honor of the county’s Health Department.
Strong public health systems are critical for sustaining and improving community health. The St. Mary’s County Health Department provides public health services to residents and visitors to the county.
“The St. Mary’s County Health Department, along with our local health improvement coalition, the Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership, educates and engages our residents and partners to foster a healthier community for ourselves and generations to come,” said Commissioner Tom Jarboe (1st District). “A hallmark of the county’s public health system is an extensive and effective collaboration among a wide range of public and private sector partners to promote health through many venues.”
In proclaiming National Public Health Week, the commissioners call upon residents to understand the value of public health and adopt healthy lifestyle habits.
