A proclamation was issued recognizing January as National Anti-Poverty Month by the Charles County Commissioners on Tuesday morning.ย  The county is moving forward with efforts, in a pilot program, to reduce the impact of poverty in the countyโ€™s second district.

โ€œThis is a national recognition,โ€ Commissioner Debra Davis (D: 2nd) said.ย  โ€œThe entire country is recognizing anti-poverty month in January.โ€

Davis has led the anti-poverty charge in Charles County.ย  The second district, which Davis represents, encompasses Nanjemoy and Bryanโ€™s Road.ย  The standard of living issues have become front and center over recent years.ย  Political activist Cornell Posey has worked to keep the issues that region faces in the spotlight with numerous rallies and the formation of the โ€œBucket TEA Partyโ€.

The county recently adopted a pilot program for low income housing in rural areas, and is working with the State of Maryland.ย  Davis previously spoke with TheBAYNET about this.
