Sidney H. Thompsonย 

Leonardtown, MD— On April 29, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Margaret Smolarsky responded to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center at Baldridge Street in Leonardtown due to a lock-down.ย 

The defendant was identified as Sidney H. Thompson, 21, of Lexington Park. According to charging documents, “Thompson began kicking the door multiple times and with such force that he bent the locking plate on the door frame of his cell, rendering the door inoperable.”ย 

The electronic door control panel was unable to unlock the door, and a key was retrievedย to open the door manually. The incident was witnessed by Sgt. Christina Miesowitz, who is a correctional officer at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

Smolarsky observed the damage which occurred to the door. The cost of the damage is approximately $250.ย 

Thompson has a scheduled hearing set for June 7 in District Court. Thompson faces a maximum jail sentence of two months and/or a maximum fine of $500.ย
