CALIFORNIA, Md. — COSMIC Symphony will celebrate its 30th anniversary this fall with Birthday Bash, a pair of free community concerts offering audiences a mix of classical favorites on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, in Huntingtown and Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, in St. Mary’s City.
Birthday Bash will be directed by Maestro Will Esterling and showcases the ensemble’s three decades of growth as a cultural cornerstone in Southern Maryland. The concerts begin with a performance at St. Nicholas Lutheran Church in Huntingtown on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m., followed by a mainstage performance at the Nancy R. and Norton T. Dodge Performing Arts Center at St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m.
Both concerts are free to the public, though donations are encouraged to help sustain the all-volunteer orchestra. Support from the community has long been essential to COSMIC’s ability to provide professional-caliber music while remaining accessible to audiences of all ages.
Beyond its standard repertoire, COSMIC Symphony has developed a reputation for engaging traditions that keep audiences smiling. Seasonal concerts often include lighthearted touches, such as inviting community members to step onto the podium and “guest conduct” the orchestra during holiday favorites. These fun moments have become part of the group’s signature charm, creating lasting family memories and encouraging a new generation to fall in love with symphonic music.

The Birthday Bash concerts will continue that spirit by celebrating three decades of music-making in Southern Maryland. The program’s spotlight on Stravinsky, Brahms and Rimsky-Korsakov offers audiences a chance to enjoy timeless works performed with the energy and enthusiasm that have defined COSMIC’s journey for three decades.
