Prince Frederick, MD – Individuals and organizations are taking bigger steps toward joining the ‘Ready, Set, Exercise Calvert! Couch to 5Kconway’ Campaign.
The ‘Couch to 5Kconway’ Campaign, announced last fall by K Conway Physical Therapy in Prince Frederick, aims to help make Calvert County one of the healthiest counties in the nation while also benefitting Project ECHO, a local nonprofit organization that assists the homeless and others in need. The campaign starts with citizens signing up and ends with participation in Project ECHO’s Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Day 5K Walk-Run in the fall.
Since its launch, the ‘Couch to 5Kconway’ message is reaching many corners’ of the community. “I have become even more convicted in the recent year that our spiritual health is greatly impacted by our physical health,” Rev. Michael K. Lea, PhD, the Congregational Care Pastor at Chesapeake Church in Sunderland, writes in an open letter. “I know how hard it is to start an exercise plan. I also understand how hard it is to maintain an exercise program. The most important thing is to make sure you have a plan. The Apostle Paul teaches us to have a plan so that we may finish the race that God set before each of us.
“Won’t you consider joining me, and my wife, as we team up with K Conway Physical Therapy to get healthier and at the same time benefit Project Echo?” he asks readers.
Informational meetings and registration for ‘Ready, Set, Exercise Calvert! Couch to 5Kconway’ Campaign is held monthly in the wellness center of the physical therapy practice. An historic Prince Frederick stroll in preparation for the 5K walk-run will be held March 25. In 1992, the Ecumenical Council of Calvert County formed a task force to start a homeless shelter. Project ECHO, Inc. was incorporated in 1993. Its unique 90-day program gives residents the opportunity to stabilize their lives and offers many supplemental programs that encourage personal growth and independence.
