GREAT MILLS, Md. — After more than two decades of serving the community, the Great Mills Swimming Pool will transition to new management at the end of April as St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks concludes operations at the facility.

County officials announced the pool will close under Recreation & Parks on Thursday, April 30, 2026, marking the end of 23 years of county-operated aquatics programs, events, and recreational use.

The facility will not remain closed, however. It is expected to reopen in the coming months under the St. Mary’s County Family YMCA, which plans to operate the Great Mills Swimming Pool as an outdoor pool while also offering aquatics programming at its indoor facility.

Over the years, the Great Mills Swimming Pool has hosted a wide range of community activities, including swim meets, lessons, birthday parties, and daily recreational use, becoming a staple for local families and residents.

Recreation & Parks officials thanked pool members, staff, and instructors who contributed to the facility’s long-standing presence in the community, noting that generations of residents have created lasting memories there.

Public access to the pool will remain available through the remainder of April, with daily admission set at $8 for adults and $6 for youth and seniors. Current pass holders will receive a 50 percent discount on daily admission during the final weeks of county operation.

Officials also said any unused punch passes can still be honored after the transition at the Wellness & Aquatics Center in Leonardtown through their listed expiration dates.

The Leonardtown Wellness & Aquatics Center will continue to serve as the county’s primary indoor aquatics facility during and after the transition.

Questions regarding existing passes or the transition can be directed to the St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks office.
