WALDORF, Md. – On Saturday, December 8 at approximately 7:30 a.m., crews responded to the 11580 block of Acton Lane, Waldorf for the report of a house fire.ย 

Authorities say two occupants who are renting the house awoke to the odor of burning potpourri and called 911 after discovering a fire in one of the bedrooms. Seventy-five firefighters led by the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call and had the fire under control in just 15 minutes.

An investigation revealed the cause to be accidental due to improperly discarded smoking materials.ย 

One firefighter was treated and released for a medical emergency during the incident.ย The homeowner and renters are being assisted by family and friends.
