Having defeated the California Blue Knights at Gallaudet University 39-6 on May 10, the DC Generals Police and Fire Football Team will host the Philadelphia Blue Flame on May 22 at 6 p.m.
The six police and correctional officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office who are members of the team are inviting citizens to the game to support the home team and help raise money for two charities.
The game promises to be a fun family experience with exciting competition, great food and a special guest: Local recording artist Austin Cody has offered to travel from Nashville, where he is working on his country music career, to sing the National Anthem before the game. McGruff the Crime Dog will also make an appearance. The game is an important one for the Generals; a win would put them in the running for a league championship game.
Most importantly, proceeds from the game benefit the Washington, D.C., Chapter of the Concerns of Police Survivors and the Washington Center Foundation Burn Unit. Tickets are $10 but kids 12 and younger are admitted for free.
Sheriff’s Cpl. William Welch is an assistant coach for the Generals. The team also includes Officer James Thompson, a quarterback, Officer Corey Wimberly, a wide receiver, Officer Patrick Mann, a running back, Correctional Officer Edward Tabor, a strong safety, and Correctional Officer Jacob Campbell, an offensive lineman.
The DC Generals football team is a non-profit organization comprised of law enforcement, firefighter and emergency medical services personnel and is a member of the National Public Safety Football League. The league is united to raise funds for local charities through spirited competition. To learn more about the DC Generals and the charities it supports, visit www.dcgeneralsfootball.org.
