LUSBY, Md. – During the Calvert County Commissioners’ meeting on Jan. 11, Delegate Gerald W. “Jerry” Clark (R-St. Mary’s, Calvert) announced that he will not be seeking another term as the delegate representing District 29-C.

“It is time for the young people to take over and move the counties and these states the way they should be,” Clark said during the meeting. “It is time for me to move on.”

For those who do not know, Clark is a Lusby resident who served three terms as a Calvert Commissioner from 2002 to 2014. Then, Governor Larry Hogan appointed Clark to fill in for Del. Anthony J. “Tony” O’Donnell after he resigned to accept a new position with the Maryland Public Service Commission. By 2018, Clark was running in the Republican primary, where he beat Democrat Julia Nichols in the general election with 57% of the vote going in his favor.

During his 20 years of public service, Clark has served as chairman of the Tri-County Council of Southern Maryland, and on the Maryland Critical Area Commission. Clark has committed a lifetime to public service, and the community and his peers appreciate his many efforts.

“We will greatly miss Delegate Clark. He too has committed a significant portion of his life to public service,” Commissioner Earl “Buddy” Hance said.

As Clark closed out his last statement of the meeting, he mentioned his intentions for the future. He mentioned Calvert should take more of a forefront in Maryland’s decision-making process since they produce 38% of the power from their power plant.

He said there should be more representatives for Calvert that can make the county’s voice more prominent. He is stepping down to give younger people the chance to blossom and make the changes he always hopes for, even though it is a tall task.
