MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – A St. Mary’s County sheriff’s corporal was hospitalized early Friday after his marked patrol vehicle was struck head-on by a suspected drunk driver in Mechanicsville.
Authorities said Cpl. Reppel was conducting proactive traffic enforcement around 1 a.m. Sept. 26, 2025, on Three Notch Road near North Sandgates Road when the crash occurred. His cruiser was stationary with headlights on when the suspect’s vehicle ran a stop sign at North Sandgates Road, crossed all lanes of Three Notch Road, and collided with the deputy’s SUV.
Body camera and crash-scene video show the force of the impact, which deployed airbags in both vehicles and left heavy front-end damage.
The driver was identified as Juwaun Tirek Queen, 22, of Hollywood. Deputies said Queen showed signs of impairment, failed field sobriety tests, and was taken into custody. A search of his person revealed a small plastic wrapper containing a white powdery substance.

Both Reppel and Queen were transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. The deputy was treated and released a few hours later. Queen was later booked into the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Court records show Queen faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was released the same day on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
A trial is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2025, in St. Mary’s District Court.
