PRINCE FREDRICK, Md. — Dominion Cove Point LNG presented five grants worth a total of $8,000 to Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) ย at the Sept. 8 Board of Education meeting.

“The grants from Dominion provide enriching experiences for our students. We are grateful for their support,” said Dr. Daniel D. Curry, Superintendent.

Mr. Michael Frederick, Vice President of Dominion Cove Point LNG, and Mr. Karl Neddenien, Media & Community Relations Manager, presented the grants to support projects spanning a variety of academic topics.ย 

$1,000 was given for the to CCPS 2017 History Fair, where secondary students compete in the annual National History Day Competition at the local, state, and national levels. Students research a topic related to the theme of โ€œTaking a Standโ€ and will construct a project to reflect their findings.

Another $2,000 was also given to the school system for โ€œFull STEAM ahead.โ€ According to the press release,ย Library media specialists will utilize Makerspaces in the library to promote learning about energy through STEAM activities.ย 

Dominion Cove Point LNGย gave a total of $2,000 to Mill Creek Middle School’s two projects, ย โ€œGoogle Expeditions,โ€ andย โ€œExplore Learning Gizmosโ€

With the Google project, students will participate in new virtual Google Expeditions that are put together by the American Museum of Natural History, the Planetary Society and other partners, according to Chelsea Galluhugh, Science Teacher.

“Students will use Explore Learning Gizmos, which are online simulations that foster inquiry and understanding to integrate science, math, and the real world,” saidย Galluhugh

The company also gave $1,500 to Huntingtown Elementary School for their project, โ€œDestination Imagination.โ€ The grant supports the team participation in the Destination Imagination Global Finals Tournament.
