Donation Bin Heist: Trio Charged For Large-Scale Clothing Theft In Charles County

LA PLATA, Md. — Maryland State Police charged three individuals following an investigation into the theft of donated clothing from collection bins in Charles County, with assistance from Prince George’s County Police.

The incident occurred Dec. 14, 2025, in the area of Mount Pleasant Road in Waldorf. Troopers responded to reports of multiple individuals removing clothing from donation bins and placing the items into a vehicle parked nearby.

A witness recorded video of the activity and placed a tracking device inside one of the donated bags. Tracking information later showed the vehicle traveling into Prince George’s County.

Prince George’s County Police located a white Mercedes Sprinter van matching the description and coordinated with Maryland State Police to conduct a traffic stop. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of approximately 100 bags of donated clothing, with an estimated value of about $5,000. Investigators determined the items had been taken from multiple collection bins in the Waldorf area. The recovered property was secured and returned to the victim organization.

Two adult suspects, identified as Dario Celso Orozco, 49, and Carlos Enrique Orozco-Aguilar, 24, both of Halethorpe, were taken into custody along with a juvenile suspect. The juvenile was charged and later released to a guardian.

Both adult suspects were charged with theft of $1,500 to under $25,000, a felony offense that carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine under Maryland law. Each adult was released on recognizance following processing.

Court records list a trial scheduling hearing for the adult defendants on Feb. 3, 2026, in Charles County District Court.

No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
