Dr. Michael J. Martirano, superintendent of schools, was recently named Loweโs Top Terp in Education based on his leadership and commitment to education.
The Loweโs Top Terp in Education Award was established through a partnership between the University of Maryland, College Park and Loweโs, and seeks to recognize influential educators throughout the community who demonstrate โExcellence in Education.โ
The award was presented Sunday, January 10, 2010, during the Maryland Terps menโs basketball game against Florida State, and included on-court recognition in front of a crowd of 17,000 fans at the Comcast Center prior to tip-off.ย
One Top Terp winner was selected for each of the University of Marylandโs four home ACC football games, and eight will be selected for the menโs home ACC basketball games.ย Because of Dr. Martiranoโs selection as a Top Terp winner, St. Maryโs County Public Schools is eligible for the Grand Prize and could receive a $1,000 donation.
