Dr. Michael J. Martirano, superintendent of schools, was recently named Lowe’s Top Terp in Education based on his leadership and commitment to education.
The Lowe’s Top Terp in Education Award was established through a partnership between the University of Maryland, College Park and Lowe’s, and seeks to recognize influential educators throughout the community who demonstrate “Excellence in Education.”
The award was presented Sunday, January 10, 2010, during the Maryland Terps men’s basketball game against Florida State, and included on-court recognition in front of a crowd of 17,000 fans at the Comcast Center prior to tip-off.
One Top Terp winner was selected for each of the University of Maryland’s four home ACC football games, and eight will be selected for the men’s home ACC basketball games. Because of Dr. Martirano’s selection as a Top Terp winner, St. Mary’s County Public Schools is eligible for the Grand Prize and could receive a $1,000 donation.
