PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A driver was airlifted to a trauma center Sunday night following a serious crash on Dares Beach Road.

Crews responded to the accident near Simmons Ridge Road around 9:21 p.m. on February 16, 2025, to find a red pickup truck off the roadway in a wooded area. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication by firefighters.

EMS evaluated the driver at the scene and, due to the severity of injuries, requested a medical evacuation. The Maryland State Police Trooper 7 helicopter was dispatched, and a landing zone was established nearby at Calvert Elementary School. The driver was then flown to the UM Capital Region Medical Center for treatment.

Animal control officers were also called to assist with a dog found inside the vehicle.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
