MILLERSVILLE, Md. — A Catonsville man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after fleeing a traffic stop and being found in possession of drugs and an unserialized handgun in Anne Arundel County.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m. on April 13, 2026, when Anne Arundel County Police Eastern District officers conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Accord for a registration violation near Old Mill Road and Veterans Highway.
During the stop, officers requested a K9 unit, which alerted to the presence of controlled dangerous substances. As officers moved to search the vehicle, the driver exited and fled on foot but was quickly apprehended nearby.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately 40.91 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, five pills of suspected Adderall, and nearly two pounds of suspected marijuana. Officers also located an unserialized P80 9mm handgun loaded with 16 rounds, along with an additional empty 30-round extended magazine.
Jayden Derrell Smith, 20, of Catonsville, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including firearm-related charges and drug possession and distribution counts.
Court records show Smith is being held without bond following an initial hearing. A bail review hearing is scheduled for April 15 in Anne Arundel County District Court, with a preliminary hearing set for May 6 in Annapolis.
