At 5:40 pm, on Jan. 26, Charles County Sheriff’s Officer C. Shaw was patrolling northbound

in Bryantown when he observed a Maxima with improperly attached tags. Officer Shaw discovered the tag was stolen.

He conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, Matthew Andrew Hamrick, 21, of Greenville, N.C. A search subsequent to Hamrick’s arrest revealed he was in possession of a second set of stolen Maryland tags, a bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Officers also found a box in the trunk containing several one-gallon baggies containing a total of about three pounds of marijuana. The marijuana has a street value of approximately $13,000.

Further investigation revealed Hamrick’s license was suspended and he was wanted in Anne Arundel County. Hamrick was charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft valued at less than $100 and several traffic violations.

He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
