PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center in Prince Frederick will close for renovations in summer 2026 to replace the HVAC system and to install a new thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roofing system. The contract for repairs in the amount of $5,809,450 was awarded to Centennial Contractors Enterprises Inc. and approved by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) at their Oct. 21 meeting. The funds for the project will come from the Capital Improvements Plan.

“These upgrades are necessary to maintain the safety, efficiency and long-term viability of the county’s primary aquatic facility,” Parks and Recreation Director Robert Branham wrote in a memo to the BOCC.

Currently, the closure is expected to begin in May 2026 with a targeted reopening in October 2026. Parks and Recreation plans to work with Cove Point Pool and Kings Landing Pool to continue summer programming, including swim lessons, and hopes to continue working with club teams at those locations. However, water fitness and therapy programs will be reduced — some fitness programs will move to outdoor pools, and therapy services will be paused. The closure is not expected to impact the high school swim season.

Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center annual passholders can either get a prorated refund or opt for a pass extension. Members will be contacted directly.

In discussion, the county commissioners said that while the closure was not ideal, the renovations were necessary to prevent more expensive repairs down the line and create a more sustainable facility for the future.

Commissioner Earl Hance said the county would be as transparent as possible about communications regarding the project and closures to help the public during the 2026 summer season.

Members of the public can view a presentation about the project online and can follow county government and Parks and Recreation resources to stay up to date on the project and closure.
