LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Nearly 100 runners, walkers and riders turned out Sunday for the inaugural Turkey Trot Family 5K at Lexington Manor Passive Park, raising money for the St. Mary’s County Recreation and Parks youth scholarship fund.
The family-friendly event, held Nov. 23, 2025, from 9 to 11 a.m., featured a fully paved, stroller-friendly and accessible 5K route designed to welcome participants of all ages and abilities. All proceeds from the race will support scholarships that help local children take part in Recreation and Parks programs.
Sunny the Squirrel, a department mascot, joined families along the course to cheer on participants and take in the clear fall weather at the park.

With Thanksgiving approaching this Thursday, the event also gave families a chance to get some exercise in ahead of holiday dinners and gatherings.
County officials said more family fun runs are planned at Lexington Manor Passive Park in 2026. Information about the park is available through the St. Mary’s County government website.
